The structure of Local Authorities varies across England and the devolved Nations. Wales and Scotland have a single Authority for each area; these are known as Unitary Authorities and provide all Council functions. Northern Ireland also has a single type of District Council which provides limited local services. In England, although much reorganisation has taken place over the past 30 years, there continues to be a mixture of 'single tier' authorities - Unitary, Metropolitan and London Boroughs. With the rest of the Country covered by 'Two Tier' authorities - English Country Councils and District Councils; where functions are divided between the two authority types.
Driven by the live PSN database, the Local Authority report shows a dynamic list of all Councils across the UK, including detailed types and key metrics. The intention of the report is to provide easy to access and unique insights into the UK Local Authority landscape for members of the Public, Suppliers and Contractors, The Third Sector and those working across Government.
